Décors Barbares Bedroom by Nathalie Farman-Farma at Casa Cabana
Kesi is a traditional Chinese silk-tapestry making method. This antique 17th century tapestry is decorated with two egrets flying amongst the clouds. A similar example is found at the Hong Kong Museum of Art.
"Kesi" means "cut silk", as the technique uses short lengths of weft thread that are tucked into the textile. Each color is woven from a separate bobbin and the interruption of the weft remains visible at a point of colour transition, causing the textile to appear as if carved by an incision.
