TRAVEL GUIDE | CABANA TRAVEL | CABANA MAGAZINE

British-Italian sculptor Tancredi di Carcaci lives in London where he crafts extraordinary ceramic works inspired by religious iconography and Greek mythology. Fittingly, the British Museum is one of his favorite haunts. Read on to discover Tancredi's full insider guide, from neighborhood coffee spots to leafy parks, greasy spoons, cozy parks and gloriously elegant shops.

My Favorite Restaurants

It’s a close call between the greasy spoon Regency Cafe in Westminster or St. JOHN in Clerkenwell – both make hearty use of dubious parts of animals... It's probably best not to investigate too closely.

My Favorite Museum or Gallery: The British Museum

The impossible question! I will say that I've been going to the British Museum a lot recently. Antiquities are of great interest to me and seeing so many periods brought together highlights links that can otherwise be easy to miss.

My Favorite Cozy Pub: The Roebuck

The Roebuck in Richmond clinches it for me, purely based on the fact that it is the only pub in London where the landscape view is protected by an Act of Parliament.

My Favorite Coffee Shop: Willesden Junction

The tube coffee shop in Willesden Junction is my daily haunt en route to my studio.

My Favorite Store: Cornellisons

I relish the opportunity to go to Cornellisons, on the occasions when I use silver or gold leaf in my work. The array of gold appeals to my inner magpie. My latest obsession (probably destined as usual to run out in two months and move on to something else) is ancient coins, so I would also say Coincraft too.

My Favorite Park or Green Space:

Too many to count. It’s hard to beat Richmond Park in terms of rugged beauty. But on the more manicured end of the spectrum, it would have to be the maze at Hampton Court. I also often find myself coming back to WIllesden, where a track of green near the train tracks and a surprisingly lush and verdant industrial recycling plant remind me that life has a habit of somehow clinging on.

My Favourite Place of Architectural Interest:

I’m perhaps cheating, but the plaster room of the Victoria & Albert Museum has it all. From towering monuments like Trajan's column and the Puerta de La Gloria gateway, to Celtic crosses and the tomb of St. Peter.
