PORTRAIT OF A HOME
in Tangier with Gordon Watson
“Tangier isn’t about restaurants or hotels — it’s about houses,” says Gordon Watson. The mystique of the Northern Moroccan city - where Gordon has lived - lies not in gastronomy or hospitality but behind unassuming doors in quiet alleyways, which reveal palatial residences furnished to the hilt with rare treasures.
Legendary antique dealer, decorator, and collector Gordon Watson invites Cabana Films into his 1840s home in one of Tangier’s oldest quarters — a space alive with memory and layered with objects of wonder: an ever-evolving cabinet of curiosity.
After four decades of dealing in antique and 20th century furniture, silver, and fine Cartier jewellery, Gordon moved from London to Tangier full time. “I don’t think an antique dealer ever really retires,” he admits. Now, he surrounds himself with what he loves: “I just buy what I want,” he shrugs. “I think I’ve got a good eye.”
