HOUSE TOUR | ROOMS & GARDENS | WORLD OF CABANA
Then and Now: Step inside this 1930s villa in Milan, designed by Renzo Mongiardino and first photographed by Guido Taroni for the book, The Interiors and Architecture of Renzo Mongiardino: A Painterly Vision, published by Cabana. The ground floor of the villa remains as photogenic as ever, seen in updated photographs by Joanna Maclennan as the apartment provides a fitting background for Cabana's newest homewares collection.

This elegant apartment is on the ground floor of a Milanese family villa built in the 1930s. The building was originally a single-family house, but was later sectioned into three separate apartments to accommodate the three daughters of the original owner.
Renzo Mongiardino was called to work on the residence, which overlooks a rather big private garden that is accessible to most of the apartment’s rooms. The garden consequently inspired most of the interiors: bright colors, floral patterns, and a big, light-filled kitchen that could easily be found in a country home.
In the kitchen, he used many decorative elements typical of his style: tiles of yellow and blue (mixing patterns both on the floor and walls), a monumental iron-and-glass stove hood, and a round table under a Mongiardino-designed brass-and-fabric ceiling lamp.
