My Favorite Places to Stay : The Flair Monserrato & Domus 21

When friends come to Rome, I never recommend big hotels: the real gems are private homes hidden behind anonymous doorways, the kind that, for some mysterious reason, end up on Airbnb. Two of my favorite places are the apartments of two friends.

The first is The Flair Monserrato, in a Renaissance building, where you sleep beneath painted coffered ceilings six meters high: more than a room, a small stage set, with the advantage of being able to live inside it.

The other is Domus 21, on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II: here too, frescoes are not lacking, but it’s the view of the domes that does the rest, that kind of panorama that constantly reminds you where you are, in case you forget.
