Experience Milan’s design, architecture, and hidden interiors through a three-day, insider-led journey shaped by Cabana Magazine and PRIOR.
May 21 - 24, 2026
TRIP DESCRIPTION
In this three-night stay, guests will discover Milan through a series of private, behind-the-scenes experiences that reveal the city at its most intimate. The journey includes rare access to private homes from the pages of Cabana Magazine, visits to ateliers and artist studios, exclusive entry to Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper, and access to the workshops of Teatro alla Scala. Meals unfold in storied interiors and beloved local institutions, offering a layered introduction to Milan’s aesthetic and culinary life.
Milan Behind Closed Doors unfolds in May, as the winter fog recedes and courtyards burst into bloom, revealing the city in its most luminous season. Meandering through the historic center, guests will visit key cultural monuments and step inside hidden ateliers, including a ceramics studio where plates are still painted painstakingly by hand and a storied jewelry shop designed by Renzo Mongiardino.
Mongiardino, the Oscar-nominated Italian architect, set designer, and interior decorator, ties our journey together. Milan’s “master of illusions,” according to Cabana Editor-in-Chief Martina Mondadori, he shaped some of the city’s most evocative interiors, including Casa Cabana, where guests are welcomed for the first evening, and Da Giacomo, the city’s chicest restaurant, which will host a private dinner. As Mondadori notes, “Milan is a city of contrasts… It’s the private spaces and word-of-mouth recommendations that take you to the heart of the city.”
Accommodation is at Casa Brivio, a boutique hotel owned by the Brivio Sforza family within one of Luigi Caccia Dominioni’s landmark buildings in the historic Cinque Vie district. With origins dating back to Roman times, the neighborhood places guests within walking distance of key sights and all daily activities.
Trip Highlights
Up Close with The Last Supper
Painted by Leonardo da Vinci between 1495 and 1498 in the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Leonardo’s Last Supper is Milan’s most significant artistic work. Free from the usual crowds and long waitlists, guests will enjoy exclusive, private access to the monumental fresco, allowing time to experience it intimately and without haste.
Casa Cabana with Martina Mondadori
Martina Mondadori’s childhood home, designed by Renzo Mongiardino, is the spiritual heart of Cabana and its earliest source of inspiration. Guests are welcomed into the apartment for a private dinner to experience firsthand the layered interiors that continue to shape the magazine’s distinctive vision.
Makers & Collectors of Milan
Milan’s design culture lives in the details, which is why time spent in the city’s ateliers and with its makers is essential to understanding its character. From hand-painted ceramics to custom furniture and homeware, these objects reflect a lineage of craft shaped by precision, restraint, and a generations-old commitment to beauty.
Behind Closed Doors
An invitation behind closed doors of Milan’s most coveted family homes—drawn from the pages of Cabana Magazine—lets guests meet authors, collectors, and patrons amid their museum-worthy collections of textiles, objects, and art.
The Making of La Scala
Enter the workshops of Teatro alla Scala, where sets, costumes, and sculptural elements are created for upcoming productions. This behind-the-scenes experience offers insight into the work of the artisans who transform imagination into the tangible and timeless beauty of opera.
