A WEEKEND IN | CABANA TRAVEL | WORLD OF CABANA

One of Provence's most beautiful regions, the Luberon is known for its spectacular scenery, picturesque hilltop villages, bustling brocantes, and light that inspired countless artists, including Van Gogh and Cezanne. Loïs Verset, general manager of the idyllic Le Moulin, shares his favorite spots for a little taster of the region.

Where to Stay

Le Moulin, Lourmarin: Provençal hotels really don't get more charming than Le Moulin, which sits within a converted mill in the center of postcard-perfect Lourmarin. Being within this bustling village will give you a quintessential Luberon experience, and you're in just the right place for the lively brocante, which takes over the entire village every Friday. The hotel twists and turns within the building, making every room unique - some with their own terrace leading down to the pool, or a direct entrance from the village.

La Galinier, Lourmarin: Sister property, La Galinier, delivers a more rustic experience, more akin to a guest house than a hotel. It has a particularly beautiful, and large, pool and extensive grounds worth exploring. You can also enjoy petanque and drinks every evening, while the in-house restaurant serves classic French cuisine with a set menu.

Capelongue, Bonnieux: Larger than Le Moulin, with three excellent restaurants and two generous pools, Capelongue in nearby Bonnieux will deliver an elegant resort-like experience with views over the Luberon countryside. The order of the day is indulgence and relaxation; you'll just need to decide which of the swimming pools to reside by, and which restaurant to choose for lunch. Provençal bliss.

Where to Eat

Le Bouchon, Lourmarin: This lovely restaurant in the pretty village of Lourmarin serves traditional French cuisine reimagined in small tapas style plates. They have an exceptional wine list and a very warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Moris, Cucuron: My favorite spot in Cucuron, Moris is chic, stylish and affordable with a Moroccan-inspired patio. The beautifully presented cuisine is Mauritius-French fusion.

Le Bistrot, Lourmarin: My favorite spot in Lourmarin, Le Bistrot serves locally sourced produce in a charming setting with a shady terrace and very friendly service.

Insitio, Vaugines: Here you'll find sophisticated yet simple dishes crafted from a seasonal menu, which changes weekly. An idyllic, shady spot with views over the village square.

La Récréation, Lourmarin: Fondly called “La Recrée” by locals, La Recreation is known for its melt-in-your-mouth lamb confit and laid-back atmosphere

Ô Mirail, Saint Martin de La Brasque: Original dishes crafted by chef Yoann Rigaud with local ingredients. You have the option of eating outside on their refreshing terrace, which offers a welcome escape from the Provençal summer heat.

Where to Shop

Côté Vintage, Lourmarin: This shop’s husband-and-wife owners scour the region every morning in search of forgotten treasures. The shop has everything from model globes to vintage coffee machines.

Brocantes: Lourmarin has an excellent brocante every Friday. For some of Provence's best brocantes, in the Luberon and beyond, see Cabana guides here and here.

La Boutique de l’antiquaire, Lourmarin: Known for vintage linen and chandeliers, the shop is owned by Net-A-Porter founder Nathalie Massenet who sources and curates a beautiful, and regularly updated, selection.

Les Articles, Lourmarin: Beautifully curated, Les Articles sits on a charming street and boasts the most wonderful and unique objéts and furniture.

Square, Lourmarin: A tiny 'hole in the wall', Square is filled with vintage Provençal treasures. Think antique pétanque balls, delicate ceramics and rustic wooden furniture.
