Christoph Radl: Fat Boy

Thomas, 2022, watercolor on paper. Inspired by Amoako Boafo, Orange Shirt (2019)

Through 28 February, Milan’s Galleria Antonia Jannone presents 60 watercolors by Christoph Radl, each inspired by the ceramic figures of the Mimbres, a pre-Columbian civilization of New Mexico. The solo exhibition - FAT BOY - is a journey through art history featuring an intriguing, well-fed character who “stages” works by famous artists, from Goya, Picasso and Raphael to Maurizio Cattelan. While researching a collection of ceramics, Radl became interested in the millenary production of the Mimbres whose artefacts were decorated almost exclusively on the inside, featuring geometric motifs, animals, hunting scenes and rituals. Of all their subjects, Radl was most inspired by a humanoid figure with wide open eyes, both frightened and curious. This character, renamed as Fat Boy is the subject of Radl’s funny, on a journey through the history of art, in which he initially moves awkwardly, but then more and more confidently.

Melissa Ulfane Auction at Dreweatts

There is a particular art to collecting—a pursuit led by intuition as much as scholarship, where objects are acquired not just for their aesthetic but for their ability to hold and transmit stories. For Melissa Ulfane, founder of Pushkin Press, collecting has always been about narrative. This is evidenced by Melissa's elegant apartment in Paris, the contents of which will be auctioned on 4 March, with viewings starting 28 February.
